Norman Peart has been Usain's manager since the sprinter was in high school and started showing glimpses of his prodigious talent. As a tax auditor by profession, and as a former high-school athlete and graduate of William Knibb High School and Jamaica College, Norman initially looked after the financial, lifestyle and educational side of Usain's progression from a lank, shy 15 year old into a global star. But it was after seeing his young prot?g? at age 16 run 20.25 seconds in the 200 metres finals of the Jamaican High School Championships in 2003, he came up with a 4 to 5 year plan with Beijing being the main objective. With the consent of his parents, Peart organized for Bolt to turn professional in 2003 by signing with Puma, relocating himself and Bolt to Kingston and the story began to unfold. His plan certainly paid dividends. His strategy has seen Coach Glen Mills take charge of Bolt's training and PACE Sports Management out of London become the young Star's competition Agency.
COACH - Glen Mills
Usain is coached by Glen Mills who he describes as a father figure and who Usain credits with so much of his success, "He has always made the right decisions for me. He is a guiding light in my career and he has shown me the way to improve myself both as a person and as an athlete," said Bolt after his Olympic success. Mills started coaching Usain following the 2004 Olympic Games, and the improved physical and technical training transformed raw talent into the world's fastest man ? Usain Bolt. Coach Mills has worked with some of the Caribbean's top sprinters since the 1970's with athletes such as two time Olympic finalist Raymond Stewart, 2003 100m World Champion Kim Collins and 2004 Olympic relay gold medallist Aileen Bailey. Coach Mills has led many Jamaican teams to Olympic and World Championships and currently coaches 400m stars Ricardo Chambers and Jermaine Gonzales as well as the upcoming Renaldo Rose and Yohan Blake. At 14 years-old, soon after realizing he did not have the speed to make the track team at his alma mater - Camperdown High in East Kingston - Glen Mills was named assistant to the school's track coach Henry McDonald Messam. He learned so much that by the time he was in 10th grade, Mills was in charge of the Class Three boys. His love for track and field coaching was born and after graduating from Camperdown he stayed on but still had to prove himself. Soon he was running his own off-campus training sessions and went on to earn diplomas from the International Olympic Committee training centre in Mexico and High-Level Sprint Tech training at the IAAF Training Centre in Puerto Rico. Mills was at the helm when Camperdown earned the nick-name 'Sprint factory', producing some of the best male sprinters in the country, some of whom went on to represent Jamaica at the senior level. Mills was honoured last year by receiving the IAAF Coach of the year award as well as been named NACAC Coach of the Year during the 18th Congress of the NACAC Track and Field Coaches Association held in Aruba.
